- The Enlightenment | Immanuel Kant
During the 18th century, the era of the Enlightenment appeared to be a dominant philosophical movement in Europe which considered reason as the primary source of man’s realising himself. Kant considered enlightenment as “man’s emergence from his self-imposed nonage” which incapacitated his own understanding and made man tied to another’s guidance. Kant stated that man should exploit dogmas and formulas and use them to end his nonage. He considered giving up enlightenment as the violation of man’s rights, supporting the idea that man should use their own reason in religious matters without any need for external guidance.
